Both Ed ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) lindendragon and I have been busy with various things and haven't had as much time for Livejournal as we would like. As far as I know, he's still busy with school (even during summer, sadly) but I have a bit more free time on my hands now so I'll be updating regularly. If you haven't joined the community already, please join in addition to friending us. Our media posts will all be friends only so you won't be able to access them if you don't join. Just wanted to let everyone know, that a new version of MemcacheD has been released. We will be rolling this out to the memcache nodes during the week of July 20th to 24th. This should have very little impact on the stability of the website; however users may see a slight increase in load times as the cache is re-populated with entries.
The software has been tested and verified to be working just fine with the application; so we perceive this to be a very minimal risk in regards to updating, and the stability of the website.

Well, I finally did it. I quit my job at Bruegger's.
It was my first experience having to do something like that, and I can't say it was particularly enjoyable. My boss has a flood of recent high school graduates leaving for college in August, so I knew it wouldn't help her to lose me too. But really, in this economy, it won't be hard to find tons of willing people to replace me. So I got over it.
But then my crazy supervisor just had to throw a monkey wrench into my guilt complex. I had been planning to turn in my resignation today, but when I got into work yesterday morning, I learned that Laurie had quit via the disappear-into-thin-air method over the weekend. Yeah. That sucks a lot, especially because Rhonda did the same thing a few months ago. Kelli is a really great manager - she works very hard and always maintains a high level of professionalism that I really do admire. So I hate to see her treated with such disrespect. I know it was probably unnecessary, but I wrote her a formal letter of resignation because I figured she deserved it for once.
My new job at Indigo starts August 1, but my classes don't start until the 24th. I originally wanted to be done at Bruegger's by the end of the month, but I decided that given the recent circumstances, it would probably be helpful to offer to work on my Indigo days off (Monday and Thursday) for the three weeks until school starts. Kelli said she'd probably take me up on that just because she's got so many people to train now and not a lot of experienced help to work with them. I spose now that Laurie's gone, it won't be so ridiculous there. And the last bit of extra money doesn't hurt either.
So that's that. But in the end, I'm glad I'm making this switch. I think it will be good for me. - Tags:work

Hi, all! I'm starting a Chinese fansub group called "Wan Zhong (Evening Bells) Subs" to translate Chinese animated series, with stardustpear. I know it's not really completely related, but there is some chinese music that features in shows, so, hey, it's partly related. Our current project (and our first!) is Qin's Moon. Buuut, we're looking for Chinese-to-English translators, no experience is necessary, just make sure you feel like you can handle it. We also need quality checkers! And if anyone is interested in helping with website stuff, we'd be happy to take on as many staff as we need. Summer's still going, and I'm still busy. Go figure. In happy news, I was offered 12-15 hours/week at the yoga studio so I am quitting Brueggers's at the end of the month. Even though Illinois minimum wage is higher than Iowa's, I'll still be making less at Indigo just because I'll be working fewer hours. But that is a good thing. I think right now, my time/sanity is more important. And it'll be so nice to have a desk job again. And it's a desk job at a yoga studio! What could be better? It's so awesome to know I only have a couple more weeks of my current job, rather than up to another year. What relief. Though I'm a little bit nervous about the actual process of quitting, since I've never had to do it before. I'm sure it will be fine, but there are some people that will be sad to see me go (I hope) and I don't want to have to tell them I'm leaving. So that's the big news. Otherwise, I'm racking up the weekend travel miles. This weekend is the American Library Association's Annual Conference. This year it is being held in Chicago, so it's a great excuse to go to check it out. I'm not paying for full conference admission (it's expensive) but I'm going to go see the vendors and exhibits on Saturday. There's a lot of cool stuff to see, from what I've heard. And a lot of authors will be there. My goal for the day is to get autographs from Neil Gaiman and Judy Blume! I'm not sure if I'll be going back on Sunday for more conference fun (I'm staying in Lombard, IL with some friends) but I kind of want to go to see the Book Cart Drill Team World Championships. I had the most awesome dream last night. I was wearing running shorts, and I looked GOOD in them. This is a breakthrough. Both running, and my ass, are positive in my subconscious.
And my consumption of fruit has gone up dramatically. This can only be a good thing, right?
